  1. 1898-1936. Spanish poet and playwright, born
  2. in Granada. Romancero gitano/Gipsy
  3. Ballad-book 1928 shows the influence of the
  4. Andalusian songs of the area. In 1929-30
  5. Lorca visited New York, and his experiences
  6. are reflected in Poeta en Nuevo York 1940. He
  7. returned to Spain, founded a touring
  8. theatrical company, and wrote plays such as
  9. Bodas de sangre/Blood Wedding 1933 and La
  10. casa de Bernarda Alba/The House of Bernarda
  11. Alba 1936. His poems include Lament, written
  12. for the bullfighter Mejias. He was shot by
  13. the Falangists during the Spanish Civil War.
  14.
